Unprecedented Weather Patterns Trigger Humanitarian Crisis
On April 16th, 2024, a joint communiqué from the Ministry of the Interior, Communal Development, and Public Security, alongside the United Nations System in Burundi, delivered a stark message: Burundi is facing the brunt of climate change. Ranked among the 20 most vulnerable countries, Burundi is grappling with the disruptive effects of the El Niño phenomenon, which has unleashed a cascade of devastating consequences.Rising Waters, Rising Concerns

Rivers’ overflow, inundating communities, while Lake Tanganyika swells, invading the inhabited areas. Between September 2023 and April 7th, 2024, over 203,944 individuals had already been affected, as per the Internal Displacement Tracking Matrix.
